What is a resin vat? 

A resin vat is a key component of an MSLA resin 3D printer that holds the photopolymer resin. During printing, UV light passes through the release film at the bottom of the vat, such as FEP, PFA, or ACF, curing the resin layer by layer to form the model. A stable, durable vat helps the print process run smoothly, keeps resin flow even, and supports consistent model quality.

A Quick-Release Resin Vat is designed to make release film replacement faster. The film is secured with fixing plates and latches instead of traditional screws, so you can replace the film without a screwdriver or extra tools and reduce maintenance time. 

The official Phrozen aluminum resin vat is CNC-machined, then finished with sandblasting and powder coating for high strength, durability, and long-term structural stability. It also comes with a pre-installed release film, so you can start printing right after installation.

The 2L capacity holds about 2.5 bottles of 1kg resin**, giving large models and long prints more resin to work with and reducing mid-print refills. Extra-wide handles make the vat easier to hold, while the pour spout makes pouring resin back easier. 

This vat only works with release film made for the Quick-Release Resin Vat. We recommend Phrozen PFA (nFEP) Film for Mighty Revo 16K MAX Quick-Release Resin Vat. This official release film is made from 0.15 mm PFA (nFEP) material with 97.5% UV light transmission. 

The film comes with pre-punched holes and replacement quick-release silicone sheets  to ensure proper alignment and tension. The Revo MAX also has a built-in release film life tracking system that automatically reminds you when the recommended replacement threshold is reached, making routine maintenance easier to manage. 

*We do not recommend cutting an aftermarket release film as a replacement, since mismatched holes or uneven tension can affect release performance and print stability. 

 **In official tests, the 2L resin vat held 2.5 bottles of 1kg resin. This result is from Phrozen lab testing with Aqua Ultra-High Detail Resin (Graphite Gray). The actual number of bottles may vary by resin type. 

 

Three-Step Film Swap

  1. Open the fixing plates on all four sides and remove the frame. 

  1. Install the new release film onto the frame. 

  1. Lock the latches and press the fixing plates back into place.

When Do I Need to Replace My Resin Vat?

Resin vats are built for long-term use, but you may need to replace the vat in the following cases: 

  • Warping or poor sealing 

  • Damaged mounting structure 

  • Heavy wear on the vat surface 

  • Loose or damaged release film locking plates and buckle mechanism, affecting the seal 

If only the release film is damaged, you typically only need to replace the film itself.
